The most extraordinary island of Greece and among the best tourist destinations ever, Santorini is located in the southern side of the Aegean Sea. The present shape of Santorini was formed after a huge volcanic eruption in 1,650 B.C. This was when most of the caldera got filled with water.
In the Medieval times, picturesque villages were built at the edge of the caldera, such as Fira, Imerovigli and Oia. Today only the top of the volcano can be seen, coming out of the sea. Small boats make the tour to the volcano and the thermal springs every day.
Apart from the impressive landscape, Santorini is also famous for the most romantic sunset in the world.
